Περιγραφή

On 27, 28 and 29 October 2005, an international demographic conference was held in Belgrade on the theme of "Migrations, crises and recent conflicts in the Balkans". Its aim was to assess -from a variety of angles, if not exhaustively- the consequences of the migrations resulting from the socioeconomic and political crises and from the armed conflicts of the 1990s in the Balkans. The conference was divided into four thematic sessions: - Measurement problems - Forced migrations - Migrations in the Balkans and the consequences for the countries of the region - Migrations in the Balkans and their consequences for other countries A total of 36 papers were presented and debated by a hundred or so participants in plenary session. They are presented in full summary form in the present proceedings. The Belgrade conference was initiated by the DemoBalk network, a group of demographers whose ambition is to simulate cooperation between scientists and institutions working on population questions in the Balkans, to organize scientific meetings and disseminate the most significant research findings. But it would never have got off the ground if the Association of Demographers of Serbia had not decided, in full agreement with the Institute of Social Sciences in Belgrade and with AIDELF (Association Internationale des Demographes de Langue Francaise) to turn the idea into a project, to put the dream to the acid test of reality.
